My Darlin' Hometown
Ol' Cooter got lost in the fog and wound up in downtown Brenham, Texas, where he took this "pitcher" on Sunday morning. This is the local depot for the Santa Fe line. The Santa Fe rail runs all the way up to Brenham (and past Brenham) from Galveston, Texas. On the way, it passes right through the Bubba Coast town of Santa Fe (yep, the town was named for the railroad), in-between Hitchcock and Alvin. Even though Santa Fe, Texas is not right on the coast, we bubbas who proudly call this place our hometown have trailered many a boat from there, right into the Bubba Coast heartland--La Porte, San Leon, Texas City, and even Galveston herself. So when I cross the train tracks, every now and then that old John Prine song runs through my head: "I'm lost and I wish I were found In the arms of my darlin' hometown" If you're from there too, maybe you know what I mean.
